Z and L are two doctoral students in their twenties who have been living in the United Kingdom for several years. Ongoing physical symptoms, combined with the pressures of doctoral study, gradually caused them increasing anxiety about their health.

Z had experienced persistent hoarseness for more than two years, occasionally accompanied by blood-stained nasal discharge. Over the previous six months, Z had also noticed poorer sleep quality.

L had experienced an increasingly nasal voice for several years and also occasionally noticed blood-stained nasal discharge. In recent months, L had developed recurrent abdominal bloating and difficulty with bowel movements. L had also noticed a prominent nodular growth around a previous piercing site on the left ear but had not received professional assessment or treatment.

These symptoms led both of them to worry about possible nasopharyngeal disease, cancer, or another serious underlying condition. They therefore hoped to undergo a systematic and comprehensive medical assessment as soon as possible.

Planning Around Their Return to China

In early 2026, Z and L contacted Serica Medlink for a detailed consultation. Based on their symptoms, previous test results, main concerns, and planned return dates, we helped develop personalized assessment plans.

Before they arrived in China, Serica Medlink coordinated the relevant examinations, specialist consultations, and overall schedule. After returning, Z and L underwent in-person medical consultations, blood tests, PET/CT or PET/MR, ultrasound examinations, brain MRI, gastrointestinal endoscopy, and nasopharyngoscopy.

Because the process had been arranged in advance, they were able to complete multiple examinations and specialist assessments smoothly within their limited time in China, with less unnecessary waiting.

Findings and Follow-Up Treatment

L’s examinations identified inflammatory changes in the posterior wall of the nasopharynx, paranasal sinusitis, and inflammatory changes involving the ascending colon and ileocecal region.

The nodular skin thickening on L’s left ear was assessed as scar overgrowth associated with the previous piercing. Serica Medlink helped coordinate the relevant surgery and radiotherapy, and L is currently recovering well.

Z’s PET/CT identified inflammatory changes in the right pharyngeal recess and chronic inflammation of both tonsils. Nasopharyngoscopy did not show any obvious malignant lesion. Z’s elevated ferritin level was reviewed alongside the other findings, and continued follow-up was recommended.

The completed assessments did not identify evidence of the serious malignancies they had feared. At the same time, the examinations clarified several health issues requiring treatment or follow-up.
